Guidelines for Grants

Grant applications are accepted year-round through the Foundation for immediate needs requests.  For information on how to submit an immediate needs request, please contact the Foundation 970-249-3900.  Grant application are accepted from September 2, 2019 until November 1, 2019 for the 2019-2020 MCF Impact Grant cycle.

The following criteria are used in the evaluation of grant requests:

  • Proposed project or activity is generally aligned with the vision and mission of the Montrose Community Foundation.
  • Grant requests should benefit a large percentage of the community with special emphasis given to the most needy or under-served components.
  • Grants should have a large impact in terms of number of people affected.
  • Proposed project or activity includes involvement and mutual support from other agencies/organizations within the community.
  • Funds should be spent in the community.
  • Organization appears to have capacity to carry out proposed project or activity.
  • Requests that also have funding from other sources will be given higher consideration.
  • Indicate on your application whether partial funding of your request is an option.
  • Grant requests for operational expenses will be carefully screened and must directly relate to organization’s program and primary purpose.
  • Historically grant amounts from the Foundation ranged from $500 to $5,000.  The 2019-2020 MCF Impact Grant cycle is not limiting the amount of funds for which applicants may request.

The following grant requests will not be funded:

  • Medical expenses for an individual.
  • Payments directly to families for requests arising from catastrophes. The Foundation will consider requests from organizations created for that purpose.
  • Requests for travel expenses.
  • College scholarships will not be funded through the competitive grant cycle.
